Our New Youth Room: A Memorial to Penny Budzien!

Penny Budzien, a long-time member of RLC, recently passed away, and we want to honor her for her many contributions, but especially our her commitment to our youth.

A New Youth Room:
A group of RLC folks have recently done a lot of cleaning and purging of unneeded things at our church, which opened up a space for Lori B to move her office. This in turn gave us the opportunity to convert Lori's old office to a new space inside the church that can be used for our youth!

With funds we receive in Penny's name, we are completely renovating this space to make a comfortable, inviting room for the teens to have Sunday School and social events.  When not in use by our teens, the room will be available for small group meetings and for weekday and evening Bible study groups like the ones that Penny often led.

Making a Donation: If you would like to make a memorial donation to honor Penny, please consider donating to Penny's memorial, which has been approved by the family. Donations made to the RLC PENNY BUDZIEN MEMORIAL will fund this renovation.

Thank you for helping us honor Penny in this wonderful way.

Help Feed People Who Stop by Our Outside Blessing Box

Picture
Our Blessing Box continues to get heavy use. Our biggest need is packages of tuna, chicken and other protein. Two things we could use more of right now are granola bars and chewy granola bars.

Worship Planning for June and July

We now have a set time for worship planning and it is the first Sunday of the month at 9:00am. All who are interested are welcome to attend.

Worship in June (and beyond)
In June we move fully into the season of Pentecost, which is the long season which will take us all the way until the end of November.  Pastor Mark will be preaching based on the assigned lectionary readings and will use the same liturgical setting from the Green Book which we have been using (with minor changes for the new season).

Favorite Hymns this Summer
One thing we want to do this summer is incorporate some of peoples’ favorite hymns.  They don’t even have to fit the theme of the day.  We just want to enjoy some of the hymns people really enjoy.  Let Pastor Mark know if you have favorite hymns you want us to sing.

Possible Sermon Series and Simplified Service coming in July or August
Pastor Mark is looking at doing a sermon series based on the book The War of Worldviews: Choosing Connection in a Culture of Separation by Jamie Winship.  Often the problem isn’t that the church has bad theology, it’s just we are operating no differently than the world around us and thus not achieving any better results .  What if the operating system is what really needs to be changed?

We will be talking at our Worship Planning meeting about doing a simplified worship service starting later in the summer.  There are some simple services such as Service of the Word or Morning Prayer that might be a good change of pace for a while.  Let Pastor Mark know if you have any questions or thoughts regarding this, or come to the meeting on June 7.

Wednesday Night Bible Study, 6:30pm Dinner and 7:00pm Bible Study

Wednesday Dinner and Bible study from May-June 10. Study Topic: Prayer
We are beginning a new study on Prayer using “The Prayer Course” which is based on Pete Greig’s book How to Pray: a simple guide for normal people.  If you want to grow in your ability to hear God’s voice and see God work more fully in and through your life, this course is for you. We will finish our study on prayer on Wednesday, June 10 and will start another study for the summer.  One suggestion is to do a study on Revelation using the book Life Lessons from Revelation by Max Lucado.  Stay tuned for more information as plans are finalized.

We meet for dinner at 6:30, start checking in about 6:50 and start our study at 7:00.  For more information about the course, go to prayercourse.org.

Men's Group

Anybody want to plan our next Men’s Group gathering?

We hope to get our monthly Men’s Group meetings going again in April or May.  If you would like to plan our next gathering, let Pastor Mark know.

"Boundaries" Bible Study with Dr Paul

Picture
A new Bible study called Boundaries has started, and you are invited to participate. It's being lead by Dr. Paul and it's every Sunday at 9:15am.

Sometimes the challenge of Christianity is to have the courage to say yes, but often the greatest spiritual discipline is to know when to say no.  This study is based on the book Boundaries by Henry Cloud and John Towsend.

Pastor Mark is Praying at the Yukon Chamber of Commerce 2x/month

Following God’s call to get into the community and connect people with God and each other, Pastor Mark will be doing community prayer in the Yukon Chamber of Commerce board room from noon-1:00 the first and third Monday of each month.

Come and join us as we pray for each other and the Yukon community.

Wednesday 4 Lokal

Each Wednesday, Pastor Mark (unless he is out of town or has another commitment) is going to the Lokal in Yukon from 4-5pm for a beer and to develop community.  It is a great opportunity to talk and pray with others or just check in with the server to see how they are doing and if they would like prayer for anything.  Come join him one of these Wednesdays.
